Thank you for reminding me of some of the wonderful people who are indeed out there caring for others with expertise and great dedication. There were some shocking disappointments, but also some angel nurses who cared for my parents, too, in their last days. Thank you for sharing your mom's story.
You obviously were not aware that there are many doctor opiate addicts. These doctors steal opiates from the patients. It seems that’s what happens to your mom’s OxyContin. One of the doctors kept it for himself.
I never thought about that. That is a very real possibility.
On hospice, the nurses very carefully monitored the narcotics and then collected what was left once it was over. Before hospice - they just wrote out one prescription after another. It felt dystopian when the pharmacist handed me a bag of Fentanyl patches.
If it didn’t make sense I ignored their instructions. Unfortunately, my sisters didn’t understand that and sometimes followed orders even when they were dangerous. You can’t know everything, but those we’re paying for help are supposed to know more than they apparently do
We don’t know what we don’t know. I’m naturally more rebellious-having lived through the 60’s and 70’s where truth was obviously on the way out-and had chosen to buck the system with my kids (no vx’s and homeschooling) so ignoring the drs was easier for me. The tendency to overprescribe with my kids was an eye-opener too, and I backed away from medicine. But when we trust that they have our own best interests in mind? We have no defense.
Your mom made the right decision, and that decision was rewarded by God through the hands of his people, the ones who care.
My father’s hospice team were angels. Beautiful wonderful team. 💙

I know now that I should have been hyper-aware of every detail. What I didn't know, I should have researched. I wont be fooled again.
You absolutely must let your instincts and your own common sense always override the orders of any doctor or other professional.

You Trusted. No sin there
