One Theory
On this day, last year, the doctor said that everything was fine. The pancreatic endoscopy result had come back clear, as had the colonoscopy result. The lump seemed to be a swollen lymph node. The doctors had ruled out cancer. The only plausible explanation, according to them, was the presence of an infection. Through an I.V., my mom was given antibiotics to fight unknown bacteria stemming from an unknown location in her body. The theory was that the antibiotics would kill the bacteria, and the lymph node would return to its normal size.
Theories are not facts. Theories need to be tested. This was one of many theories that would be tested on my mom.
